Mata Nui was an island paradise. Floating in an endless ocean, the island was divided into six districts of ice, jungle, desert, underground caverns, watery bays, and a fiery volcano. Each held a village filled with small villagers called Matoran, led by a Turaga elder.
In this troubled time, six canisters plunged into the ocean near the island’s shores, each containing a Toa hero. With little memory of their history or purpose, the six heroes found their way together: Tahu, Toa of Fire; Gali, Toa of Water; Kopaka, Toa of Ice; Pohatu, Toa of Stone; Onua, Toa of Earth; and Lewa, Toa of Air. Their task: collect the six gold Masks of Power hidden throughout Mata Nui and use their powers to defeat the Makuta in his underground lair.
Each Toa must endure challenges and learn to work with one another — and the brave Matoran — to find their gold Kanohi masks and become ready to confront the Makuta and his terrifying defenders.
