BIONICLE Mask of Destiny

Legend of BIONICLE

Chapter IV: “A Prophecy for Lewa”

Written by Leah Weston Kaae

1

Lewa is the Spirit of the Air. He warms all creatures living on earth.

2

Lewa is the eternal enemy of Gali — the Spirit of Water. The rumble of thunder and the glare of lightning, often heard and seen by the inhabitants of the earth — were precisely the result of these conflicts.

3

Lewa was the Spirit who loved people the most. Thanks to him, they could sail or rest from the heat. However, when they brought his wrath upon themselves, Lewa punished them with typhoons, tornadoes and storms. He blew houses off the face of the earth and destroyed crops.

4

People showed their gratitude to Lewa by making offerings to him. The grateful Lewa made the sky calm, and no violent winds shattered the peace of the people.

5

The Tohunga waited for the fulfillment of the prophecy that foretold the arrival of Lewa and his Toa brethren. It was they who were to restore peace and prosperity to Mata Nui…

6

Lewa was to travel the world in search of the Kanohi Masks of Power.

7

According to the words of the prophecy at the beginning of Lewa’s stay on earth, the sandy ground was to make it difficult for him to move — so far Lewa had only moved through the air.

8

First, an encounter with one of the Tohunga will await Lewa.

9

The Tohunga will initially be frightened by Lewa who would be twice his size. However, upon hearing the gentle voice of Lewa, the Tohunga will overcome his fear.

10

The Tohunga will take Lewa to the place where they keep the Kanohi Mahiki — the Mask of Power of Turaga Matau. After putting on the Mask, Lewa will understand the purpose of his arrival on the earth…

11

Lewa will tell Tohunga about his quest and that his task is to find the Masks of Power.

12

As it will turn out, only Turaga Nuju will be able to answer the question about the whereabouts of the Masks of Power. In order to meet Turaga Nuju, however, one will need to climb to the top of the highest tree in the forest — for there the priest is hiding.

13

After a short rest, Lewa will set out to conquer the forest. He will reach the highest tree after overcoming many dangers, among which, in addition to flocks of screeching birds with beaks and claws as sharp as razors, there will also be large, vicious lizards that inhabit the treetops.

14

Turaga Nuju will recognize Toa Lewa. And because he knows the words of the prophecy, he will rejoice — he knows that Lewa’s arrival marks the beginning of the fight against Makuta — the fight to regain peace on Mata Nui. At the same time, the Turaga will be gripped by anxiety — he knows that a powerful monster will stand in Lewa’s way to the Masks of Power. The monster will guard access to the most powerful tree, the tree in whose foliage the Masks are hidden.

15

Despite the warning, Lewa will set out. However, strong winds, downpours, falling branches and bats will conspire against him.

16

However, the greatest danger will meet Lewa at the foot of the most powerful tree… He will have to face it — on his way to the Masks of Power and reunion with the other Toa.

17

Together they will face their destiny. Only together can they restore happiness to the people of Mata Nui.
